Should I sell my home now or wait until spring?
One of the questions that people ask us often this time of year at Hometown Realty is, should we put our house up for sale now, or should we wait until spring? It’s a really good question and there are a number of reasons to put homes on the market now as well as wait until spring.
One of the reasons to put your home up for sale now is that the inventory is low right now. That gives you the advantage of less competition in selling, and we never know what the spring market will bring. Another reason is that even though it is winter, there are still a number of buyers who are waiting for that “right” home to come up for sale.
I hear people say that they want to wait until spring because they don’t want to move in the winter. Well, keep in mind that if you sold your house now, it will take (normally) at least 45 to 60 days before you actually have to move. So, that puts moving pretty close to spring. ~ Cheryl Dooley
By waiting until spring to put your home on the market, buyers will be able to see the yard, landscaping, etc. that they can’t see right now. (We suggest to our sellers during the winter months to put pictures out so that potential buyers can see what things look like without snow.)
Another reason to wait is that winter is a great time for you and your family to go through your home and get rid of all the “stuff” that you don’t need or use anymore. Making your home less cluttered, usually helps the home sell.
So, you decide which is the better time to sell, now or spring? And when you do decide, be sure to give us a call here at Hometown Realty in Hutchinson, MN.
